Fear of Death

If we only knew what happens after death. But why worry about death now when you should be focusing about present time and enjoy life. In the book White Noise by Don DeLillo, the fear of death plays throughout the entire book. Jack and his wife Bebette are always wondering who would be the first one to die. As the story goes on, Jack and Babette both find out that they can possibly die sooner than the other. As much as each of them tends to be strong and not make it seem that they fear death in reality they are both scared to be the first one to die. “Babette and I have turned our lives for each other’s thoughtful regard, turned them in the moon light in our pale hands, spoken deep into the night about fathers and mothers, childhood, friendships, awakening, old loves, old fears, (except fear of death).” (Page 30). Both Jack and Babette fear death fear the unknown.  Part of the human condition is to want to know and understand what is going on around us why things happen and death plays part of the questions that go through people’s head.  Everyone would like to know what happens after death and whether a person goes to heaven or hell. American’s risk of fear due to their emotions and always wonder their beliefs of death.
